Have you ever heard of a “Baby Sprinkle”?
A baby sprinkle is a type of baby shower to celebrate a family’s second (or third… or fourth…) child. Instead of a bigger party where first-time parents are showered with gifts, it’s more of a casual, relaxed gathering to show a “sprinkle” of support and potentially smaller gifts. It’s a great way to celebrate an upcoming addition without all of the hustle and bustle that comes with a traditional shower!
Inspired by this concept, I decided to host a little afternoon tea party with a few close friends and family to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our baby boy. It was SO nice to sit around a pretty table, eat tasty treats, and chat about all things motherhood.
Many of you already know, I absolutely LOVE planning a good party! Given the season, I wanted to incorporate some fall flavours and décor, but I found this somewhat challenging here in Canada, as we move from pumpkins to Christmas trees rather quickly once November hits.
I spent an entire evening hopping from store to store in our area searching the clearance racks for fall décor. To my disappointment, all I came up with were a few nice candles. Then, I scoured the Internet for some nature-inspired elements for the table with little success. Finally, I spotted some fall-inspired napkins at Party City, and that became the basis of my blue and gold design style for the tea party!
For the table, I picked out some throwaway plates with gold trim, two white-and-gold three-tiered trays, and a soft cream table runner. I happened to find a bag of decorative pine cones in the Christmas section of our local Canadian Tire, and I asked my sister to bring a set of twinkle lights that she had for her wedding.
We enjoyed homemade finger sandwiches, tea biscuits with jam and clotted cream, mini blueberry cheesecake macarons, and beautiful vanilla buttercream cupcakes. All of this was accompanied by two flavours of tea: apple cinnamon, and chai spice. All in all, a delicious spread!
If you’re expecting another child, I highly recommend putting together an intimate gathering with friends. Every new baby deserves to be celebrated!
