Thanksgiving weekend is upon us, and if your family is anything like mine, you will be gathered around the dinner table enjoying tasty food and listing a pile of things for which to be grateful. As much as I wish we took time to do this more times throughout the year, I am more than happy to join in the festivities now.
As I sit here waiting for my Mini Caramel Apple Cheesecakes to bake, I thought I would compile a short list. This year, I am thankful for…
A Gracious God
Like a loving parent, my God has provided everything I need in order to grow and prosper. He goes beyond just subsistence, and personalizes each and every gift. Best of all, He does this even though I may not recognize it or deserve it.
Psalm 107:1 – “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
A Happy Marriage
For the past 3 months, I have been blessed with a loving husband, who goes above and beyond to provide for our family. Together, we are continually learning what it means to love and be loved unconditionally, and I look forward to many more years of this happy partnership.
A Loving Family
Through marriage, my family has grown a lot this year. I have gained a new set of parents, another sister, and probably more than double the amount of aunts, uncles, and cousins. This means more family gatherings to attend, and while some people may dread these occasions, I look forward to all the embarrassing stories and times of laughter.
Most importantly, these people are a constant source of love and support, and that means a lot in a world where every thing and every one changes so often.
A Full Education
It’s easy to forget how privileged I am to live in a country that not only allows me to attend university, but also supports me in this endeavour financially. Throughout my 5 years at Nipissing, I was gifted with many different scholarships that made my bank account just a little less scary.
Changing Seasons
I know, I know. It’s a tad ironic for a girl who claims to dislike change. But October is, by far, my favourite month of the year. It’s that time of year when everything bursts with beauty and the crisp autumn air brings a little extra joy to my soul. I walk through the woods with boots on my feet and a warm drink in my hand, pondering words I once read:
So tell me, what are you thankful for?
